The Accuris Large UV Transilluminator has a viewing surface of 26 x 21 cm, compared to the smaller model that has a viewing surface of 16.5 x 13.5 cm.
Use the Accuris large UV transilluminator to analyze bands of DNA that have been separated by agarose gel electrophoresis, and stained with ethidium bromide (EtBr), SYBR Green or Accuris SmartGlow, for genotyping purposes, for example.
The scratch-resistant ultraviolet filter glass provides 302 nm UV light (300-312 nm range). A hinged, UV-protective acrylic lens allows the user to position the lens at an angle and view the illuminated gel safely while allowing access to the gel for band excision.
The large UV transilluminator allows the user to adjust the light intensity with a knob (i.e. variable adjustment), unlike the smaller model, which has only one UV intensity level (i.e. on and off). Lowering the intensity of the UV light will help prevent DNA damage while the user works to excise the DNA band from the agarose gel, which will be processed downstream (e.g. cloning).
